A 52-year-old man from Garland was killed early Sunday morning, June 29, in a crash involving an 18-wheeler on southbound U.S. Highway 75 near the Bethany Drive overpass.
Allen Police Department officers responded to the scene at approximately 6:55 a.m. and found a passenger vehicle had collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer that was temporarily stopped on the right shoulder with its hazard lights activated.
Allen Fire Department personnel arrived and found the driver of the vehicle unresponsive and trapped inside. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office. His name has not yet been publicly released.
A passenger in the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local medical facility for treatment. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured and remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation.
Two southbound lanes of US 75 were shut down for several hours while the Allen Police Department Traffic Unit conducted its investigation. The crash remains under investigation.
