Man Shot and Killed on East Central Texas Expressway; Killeen Police Investigate

The Killeen Police Department is actively investigating a shooting that resulted in one fatality in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, 2025.

At approximately 3:25 a.m., officers were flagged down by security guards in the 2300 block of E. Central Texas Expressway, who reported that a male had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located a 22-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers immediately began first aid, and Killeen Fire Department EMS continued life-saving measures upon their arrival. However, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was pronounced deceased at 3:35 a.m. by Justice of the Peace Nicola James. An autopsy has been ordered at the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Killeen Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, Robbery-Homicide Unit, is leading the active investigation. Detectives are urging residents and businesses in the vicinity to review their surveillance cameras for any individuals around the time of the shooting that may provide additional information.
