A Bell County Sheriff’s Office deputy initially observed a speeding vehicle on West Adams in Temple. The vehicle failed to stop for emergency lights and evaded the deputy, leading to a pursuit that reached Interstate 35 southbound before exiting in Belton.

One occupant of the suspect vehicle fled on foot, while another occupant sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center by Belton EMS. The driver of the vehicle that was struck by the evading car was also transported to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center by Belton EMS.

Authorities have stated there is no further danger to the public. A person of interest has been taken into custody.

The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation, and the Bell County District Attorney has been notified. As standard procedure, the two Bell County deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the Rangers' investigation.
