A false report of an active shooter on Friday, May 30, 2025, led authorities to respond to two parks west of Temple, while simultaneously apprehending two fugitives wanted on multiple felony charges.
At approximately 5:15 p.m., Bell County Sheriff’s Deputies and Temple Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting an active shooter at Leona Park on Texas Highway 36. The caller later changed the location to McGregor Park off Moffat Road. Deputies searched both parks thoroughly but found no shooter or injured individuals. Authorities are investigating the origin of the false report.
During the same timeframe, the Bell County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Apprehension Team was executing an arrest warrant in the 13000 block of Moffat Road for 28-year-old Paul Alejandro Rodriguez. Rodriguez initially refused to exit the residence and then attempted to flee on foot with a female suspect.
Following a short pursuit, both Rodriguez and the woman, identified as 28-year-old Jessica Rae Olivarri, were taken into custody. While being escorted, both suspects became visibly ill and admitted to ingesting fentanyl. Officers from the Temple Police Department administered Narcan on site, which reversed the drug’s effects.
Rodriguez and Olivarri were transported by Temple EMS to a local hospital with assistance from the Moffat Fire Department and remain under medical care.
