Roommate Dispute Turns Deadly: Dallas Woman Sentenced to 99 Years for Murder

Jalyce Richardson

A Dallas County jury found 31-year-old Jalyce Richardson guilty of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following a fatal shooting that stemmed from a dispute over shared housing.

Richardson had been renting a room in an apartment occupied by a couple who had recently asked her to move out due to disruptive behavior. Complaints included loud music and locking the couple out of their home, which drew the attention of both neighbors and property management.

On the day of the incident, the couple was preparing for a date when one of the victims attempted to confront Richardson and remind her to vacate. After receiving no response from knocking, the victim used a plastic utensil to open Richardson’s door, leading to a heated argument.

During the confrontation, the victim offered to refund Richardson’s rent and asked her to leave multiple times. Instead, Richardson pulled a firearm and opened fire—killing one victim and injuring the other—then returned to her room and closed the door.

The surviving victim played dead for approximately 20 minutes before calling 911. Responding officers found Richardson in her locked bedroom, showing no willingness to discuss the events.

Following a swift guilty verdict, the jury sentenced Richardson to 99 years in prison for murder and 20 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The case was prosecuted by lead attorney Basma Raza and second chair Robbie Pfeiffer. Dallas Police Department investigated, with assistance from DA Investigators Anthony Winn and Aleciah Taylor.
