On Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, a 16-year-old boy was involved in a traffic accident on Spring Creek Parkway in Plano while en route to meet his girlfriend’s parents for the first time. The teen had just purchased flowers and was heading to dinner when the collision occurred, rendering his vehicle undrivable.

Plano Police and Plano Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene. Among them was Officer A. Rust, who took special care to reassure the visibly upset young driver that the day could still be salvaged.

Recognizing the importance of the occasion, Officer Rust personally transported the teen to his girlfriend’s home, ensuring he did not miss the dinner. A photo provided by Plano Fire Rescue shows Officer Rust speaking to the young man, who was still holding the flowers he had purchased for the occasion.

Fire Captain Stratton commented that Officer Rust went “over the top” by assisting the teen in such a personal way. Her actions provided comfort and stability during a stressful situation.

The Plano Police Department recognized Officer Rust for her compassion and service, calling her actions an example of the care officers strive to provide every day to members of the community.
