Irving Police Department Cracks Down on Illegal Fireworks and Gunfire Ahead of Independence Day

Officer Robert Reeves

The Irving Police Department (IPD) is urging residents to refrain from shooting off fireworks within city limits and to avoid indiscriminate gunfire in preparation for the upcoming Independence Day holiday. Officer Robert Reeves, during an interview with City Source, emphasized the potential consequences of engaging in such activities.

With the holiday approaching, the IPD has noted a significant increase in reports regarding illegal fireworks. Officer Reeves issued a stern warning, stating that shooting fireworks within the City of Irving is strictly prohibited. Offenders caught violating this regulation will face penalties, including receiving a citation, having their fireworks confiscated, and even potentially facing jail time.

To tackle the issue effectively, the IPD is encouraging community members to play an active role by providing detailed information about the locations where individuals are shooting fireworks. Those with specific knowledge about such activities are urged to contact the IPD's non-emergency number at (972) 273-1010.

In addition to the fireworks concern, the police department highlighted the danger posed by random gunfire. Officer Reeves emphasized the critical message that firearms should never be discharged into the air. The department stressed that what goes up must come down, and incidents of people being injured or killed by falling bullets have been documented in the North Texas area.

To address any instances of gunfire or suspected firearm-related incidents, the IPD advises residents to promptly dial 9-1-1. By reporting these occurrences, the police can swiftly respond and ensure public safety.

With a proactive approach and the cooperation of the community, the Irving Police Department hopes to minimize the risks associated with illegal fireworks and gunfire during the Independence Day holiday. They are committed to preserving a safe environment for residents and visitors alike.
