Lyft Driver Sentenced to 12 Years for Aggravated Sexual Assault in Dallas

Hamidreza Farahbakhshsadeh

A Dallas County jury found 38-year-old Hamidreza Farahbakhshsadeh guilty of Aggravated Sexual Assault and sentenced him to 12 years in prison.

According to investigators, the victim was out with friends on a Friday night when they requested a Lyft to go home. Farahbakhshsadeh, their assigned driver, picked up the group and dropped off the other passengers first, leaving the victim alone in the vehicle. Instead of taking her home, he drove about three miles away from her apartment, displayed a gun, and assaulted her in the backseat.

The victim was eventually released and ran away to call 911. She later reported the incident to the police and cooperated with the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by lead attorney Haley Pratt and second chair Tristan DerMargosian, with assistance from DA Investigator Abigail Cruz and DA Victim Advocate Adriana Sellers. The Dallas Police Department led the investigation.

Despite being probation-eligible, the jury sentenced Farahbakhshsadeh to 12 years in prison.
