Dr. Reny Lizardo, the Executive Director of Campus Operations for Irving Independent School District (ISD), is facing backlash after a video surfaced showing him allegedly advising an undercover journalist, posing as the parent of a transgender girl, on how to bypass state law to allow a male-born student to compete in girls' sports. In the video, Lizardo suggests changing the child’s birth certificate to female in order to circumvent the law, stating, “It’s not illegal if you don’t get caught.”
When confronted about the video, Lizardo denied making those statements, though the conversation is clearly recorded. Texas Governor Greg Abbott reacted strongly to the video, posting on his official X account (@GregAbbott_TX), stating, "This Irving ISD Administrator should be fired on the spot. Both criminal & civil investigations must be taken against both the Administrator & Irving ISD. Has Irving ISD and its employees been involved in a fraudulent breach of state laws & a cover-up? We must get the facts."
