Winter Preparedness for Irving: Protect People, Pets, Pipes, and Plants

As winter weather approaches, residents are urged to take precautions to safeguard their homes, loved ones, and belongings from freezing temperatures.

  • People: Dress warmly in layers and check on elderly friends, family, and neighbors to ensure they have heat and proper clothing.
  • Pets: Provide animals with a warm, dry place to sleep indoors.
  • Pipes: Insulate exposed pipes and drip indoor faucets to prevent freezing.
  • Plants: Cover cold-sensitive plants or bring them indoors.

For Renters and Multifamily Communities:
Tenants are encouraged to promptly report utility or maintenance issues—such as heating problems or leaks—to their landlords or property managers. Residents should also keep emergency contact numbers for property assistance during severe weather events.

If no corrective action is taken within 24 hours of reporting the issue, residents are advised to contact Irving Code Enforcement for assistance.at (972) 721-4829 or submit an online complaint.

Private Property Owners with Water and Sewer Issues

Homeowners should call Irving Water Utilities for water- and sewer-related maintenance issues, including requests to temporarily shut off water service, at (972) 721-2281 or (972) 721-2664. Staff is available 24/7 to assist as needed.
