Michael Lewis, a 55-year-old man from Denton, was arrested in Indianapolis on Sunday, January 12, 2025, on charges of felony stalking after sending several threatening and sexual messages to WNBA player Caitlin Clark.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Lewis sent numerous messages on X between December 16, 2024, and January 11, 2025, directed at Clark, who plays for the Indiana Fever. The messages were described as threatening and sexually explicit.
On January 8, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police confronted Lewis at a local hotel where he was staying. Lewis claimed he was on vacation in Indianapolis, but when questioned about his posts, he told officers he had an "imaginary relationship" with Clark.
Clark, who was aware of the situation, had adjusted her public appearances and movements after learning that Lewis was in the area, fearing for her safety. She stated that she did not know Lewis and had never responded to any of his messages.
Despite being confronted by police, Lewis continued to send messages to Clark, leading to his arrest on Sunday, January 12.
Lewis was charged with felony stalking, a Level 5 felony, which carries a potential sentence of one to six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted.
