Fort Worth Sees Increased Sales Tax Revenue in September 2024

Fort Worth’s sales tax collections for September 2024 saw a notable increase compared to the same month in 2023, contributing to the City’s General Fund, which relies on sales tax as its second-largest revenue source, behind property tax. Sales tax collections make up 25% of the City's General Fund revenue for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024.

Despite an overall 8.23% shortfall in sales tax collections compared to the FY2024 adopted budget, September’s sales tax receipts were 10.6% higher than September 2023. The City’s FY2024 total sales tax revenue, including all accruals, is projected to reach $351,744,321, up 2.3% from the previous fiscal year.

The Crime Control & Prevention District (CCPD) Fund, which is primarily funded by sales tax, also saw a 7.4% increase in September compared to last year. However, the CCPD’s sales tax collections are currently 8.26% below the adopted budget.

The City’s sales tax comes from various industries, including department stores, limited-service restaurants, building materials, electric utilities, and non-store retailers. Despite slower growth in 2024 after a boom in sales tax receipts during the post-pandemic recovery, the City expects more stable long-term growth in 2025 and beyond.
