Irving Police Capture Two Suspects After Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Collision

On Thursday, October 17th, at around 7:49 a.m., Irving Police located a red Chevy Silverado pickup truck reported stolen. After calling for backup, officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, leading police on a high-speed pursuit through Southwest Irving. The suspect's vehicle collided with two other cars—a Lexus IS3 and a Toyota Corolla—at the intersection of S. Beltline Rd. and E. Trinity Blvd. Both drivers, a 53-year-old and a 60-year-old woman, sustained no serious injuries.

The driver, identified as 51-year-old Derrick Lenor Walker of Dallas, was apprehended at the scene and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle valued at $20,000, Evading Arrest Detention with a Vehicle, and Accident Involving Damage.  Further investigation revealed that Walker was out on bond for drug charges.  He was transferred to the Dallas County Jail to face Insufficient Bond charges for drug dealing and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.  His bond was set at $49,000 but it still being held on the warrants.  

The passenger, 52-year-old Darrell D. Johnson, attempted to flee on foot but was quickly detained. Johnson was found to have three active warrants from the Dallas City Marshal's Office and was also charged with Evading Arrest Detention.Johnson has bonded out of jail. 

A search of the stolen vehicle yielded two debit cards that did not belong to either suspect.
