The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office announced that 20-year-old Donavin Copeland has pled guilty and been sentenced to 70 years in prison for charges of aggravated robbery and animal cruelty. Copeland was involved in a series of six aggravated armed robberies, during which he frequently shot at store clerks and stole the victims' vehicles to flee the scene. In one incident, Copeland pistol-whipped a victim, and in another, he fatally shot a two-pound dog named Peanut belonging to a store clerk.
The case was investigated by the Fort Worth, Saginaw, and White Settlement Police Departments. Assistant District Attorneys Steven Elliott and Ashton Moore prosecuted the case, with Investigator Kevin Hilliard leading the investigation and Victim Advocate Carma Anderson providing support.
