City of Irving Intensifies Mosquito Control Efforts

The City of Irving is actively engaged in mosquito control, utilizing a network of 57 trap and spray locations across the area. Trapping continues, and if any traps test positive for mosquito-borne diseases, vector control technicians will conduct spraying in the affected areas during nighttime hours.

Irving's mosquito control team collaborates with the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Dallas County Health and Human Services Department to carry out year-round surveillance and testing of the local mosquito population.

Residents are encouraged to adopt self-protection measures to minimize the risk of mosquito bites, following the "Four Ds":

  1. Dusk and Dawn – These are the peak times for mosquito activity.
  2. Drain – Remove standing water from areas like flower pots and rain gutters to eliminate breeding sites.
  3. DEET – Use insect repellents that contain DEET, which is recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as effective.
  4. Dress – Wear long sleeves, pants, shoes, and socks when outdoors.
