In a recent court case, the State of Texas faced off against 39-year-old J. Cruz Beltran of Mesquite, Texas, on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Lead prosecutor London Daniels and 2nd chair Alex Dobiyanski presented the case, with support from DA investigators JD Vance and Garrick Whaley. The Mesquite Police Department led the investigation.
Beltran was apprehended during a routine traffic stop, where law enforcement discovered a firearm and two fully loaded magazines in his vehicle. Despite being on parole at the time, Beltran denied ownership of the prohibited items.
After deliberation, the court found Beltran guilty on April 16, 2024. As a result, he was sentenced to five years in prison.
