Tarrant and Dallas Law Enforcement Leaders Discuss Project Safe Childhood Act in Roundtable Discussion

Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn, along with U.S. Senator John Cornyn and Dallas law enforcement, participated in a roundtable discussion this week to address the importance of the Project Safe Childhood Act. This act, initially implemented in 2006 and recently passed by the U.S. Senate in October, aims to combat online exploitation and solicitation of children through collaborative efforts among law enforcement, prosecutors, and educational initiatives.

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, affiliated with the North Texas Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, actively engages in combating child exploitation. Through its Human Trafficking Unit, the agency conducts internet safety courses, investigates crimes against children, and apprehends offenders.

Last month, the Unit joined forces with the Dallas Police Department and other local agencies in ICAC’s Operation Janus. This operation led to the rescue of 25 children and the arrest of 59 suspects involved in child exploitation crimes.
