On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, the Abilene Police Department responded to a major vehicle collision involving motorcycles in the 4300 block of Pine Street in north Abilene.
The initial call to police dispatch reported multiple motorcycles involved in the crash, with several injuries.
Upon arrival, officers discovered one rider deceased and two others injured. Witnesses stated that the three motorcycles had been traveling side by side northbound on Pine St. just before the collision.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Brayden Shockley of Merkel. The two injured riders were transported to HMC for treatment.
Speed is believed to be a factor in the collision, although it's currently unknown if intoxication played a role. The Traffic Division is continuing its investigation.
Shockley was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
