Collin County Man Arrested for Murder in Connection with Fentanyl Overdose

Gregory Noah Honesty

On February 13, 2024, authorities from the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshal’s Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force, and the U.S. Marshal’s North Texas Fugitive Task Force apprehended Gregory Noah Honesty, 25, in Dallas, Texas, on charges of murder as per Penal Code 19.02(b)(4).

The arrest stems from an investigation initiated on November 19, 2023, when officials from the Collin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the tragic overdose death of a 25-year-old woman in Blue Ridge, Texas. The Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined that the cause of death was fentanyl toxicity. Subsequent investigation revealed evidence linking Honesty to the sale of fentanyl-laced counterfeit M-30 pills to the deceased woman. Consequently, Collin County Investigators secured an arrest warrant, authorized by 401st District Court Judge George Flint, charging Honesty with murder.

Texas Penal Code 19.02(b)(4) stipulates that an individual may face murder charges if they knowingly manufacture or deliver fentanyl, resulting in someone's death.

In response to the arrest, Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner commended the Texas Legislature for amending the state's Penal Code to aid law enforcement in addressing the fentanyl crisis and holding those accountable for their actions. He pledged that his office would diligently pursue individuals who distribute fentanyl-laced substances that lead to fatal consequences.
