Woman Faces Multiple Charges After Shoplifting Incident Escalates into Assault on Irving Police Officers

Kyla Alise Barksdale

In the evening of December 23, 2023, Irving Police responded to a shoplifting call at a local store. Upon arrival, officers encountered 19-year-old Kyla Alise Barksdale from Greenville, Texas. As officers attempted to apprehend her, a physical altercation ensued, during which Barksdale allegedly struck one or more officers. She was eventually subdued and taken into custody.

Barksdale was transported to the Irving Jail and officially booked at 7:32 pm. She faces charges including theft of property valued between $100 and $7, resisting arrest, and a third-degree felony for assaulting a public servant. Additionally, it was discovered that she had an open warrant from the Hunt County Sheriff's Office for a Motion to Revoke related to a probation violation stemming from an assault with bodily injury arrest by the Greenville ISD police on January 3, 2023.

Notably, just a few weeks prior, on December 13, 2023, Barksdale was arrested in Dallas for a vehicle burglary. At that time, she had posted bail on a $25,000 bond. This means she was out on bond when apprehended by Irving Police for the recent theft incident. Going further back, on September 3, 2021, Barksdale had been arrested in Bell County by Temple Police Officers for assault causing bodily injury to a family member.
