If you've ever dreamt of donning a firefighter's gear and experiencing a day in the life of a hero, now is your chance! The Irving Fire Department is thrilled to announce that applications are open for the Spring Citizens Fire Academy (CFA).
The Citizens Fire Academy is an 8-week program designed to offer Irving residents an exclusive insight into the daily operations of their local fire department. Taking place one night a week, the academy aims to familiarize participants with the diverse tasks performed by firefighters. It's essential to note that the program does not lead to certification for employment as a firefighter.
Have you ever wondered, "What do firefighters do?" The CFA will provide answers to that burning question and more. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities, including donning protective clothing, wearing HAZ-MAT suits, using Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), navigating the MAZE in protective gear, operating a fire hose, and handling fire extinguishers.
