PLANO, Texas - Police have identified a 32-year-old Plano woman killed in a shooting and her ex-boyfriend, who died after authorities said he fired multiple shots at officers during a pursuit on Interstate 35.
The victim was identified as Tashley Gately. Police identified the suspect as William Ralph Grundy, 31, of Dallas.
Plano police said Grundy was Gately's ex-boyfriend.
In the early morning hours of Sept. 14, Plano detectives located Grundy's Dodge Charger parked at a hotel in a neighboring city and began surveillance. Detectives obtained a warrant charging him with murder.
Around 9:50 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, working with Plano police and the U.S. Marshals Service, attempted to stop Grundy as he drove north on I-35 near Sanger, according to DPS.
Authorities said Grundy refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit.
During the chase, Grundy fired multiple shots toward pursuing law enforcement officers, DPS said. No injuries to officers were reported in the information released by authorities.
The pursuit ended near the Denton-Cooke county line when Grundy's car crashed into the center median. The vehicle caught fire shortly after the crash.
Sanger firefighters responded and extinguished the blaze. Grundy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the crash. Plano police said the homicide investigation remains active.
