IRVING, Texas - An Irving man was arrested after police say he displayed a handgun while stealing ice cream from a north Irving convenience store, then was found with firearms and cocaine in his vehicle.
Irving police responded Wednesday, July 29th, to an aggravated robbery at a Shell gas station and convenience store in the 3700 block of Esters Road near W. Northgate Drive.
According to investigators, 39-year-old Ray Jemor Simoneaux entered the store, selected several ice cream items and approached the checkout counter. Instead of paying, he displayed a handgun tucked into his waistband, pointed to the firearm and walked out of the store with the merchandise.
The store employee told officers he feared for his life after seeing the handgun.
Police said Simoneaux fled the scene in a red 2010 Jeep Patriot.
Officers canvassed the area and located the vehicle at an apartment complex in the 4000 block of Esters Road, a short distance from the robbery. Investigators determined both the vehicle and the suspect matched surveillance video from the store.
Simoneaux was taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered a handgun from his waistband during the arrest.
A search of the Jeep uncovered wrappers from the stolen ice cream, an AR-15-style rifle and a bag containing approximately 2.3 grams of cocaine, according to police.
Simoneaux was booked into the Irving Jail on charges of aggravated robbery, possession of a controlled substance Penalty Group 1 between one and four grams, and unlawful carry of a weapon.
The investigation remains ongoing.
