Irving Swears In New Mayor and City Council Members Following 2026 Elections

IRVING, Texas — The City of Irving has officially sworn in its newly elected mayor and city council members following the May election and June runoff.

Al Zapanta was elected mayor, while Mark Cronenwett and Fahad Ahmed were elected to represent single-member districts Place 5 and Place 6, respectively.

The June 13 runoff election also resulted in the re-election of Abdul Khabeer to represent Place 3. Khabeer took the oath of office during a ceremony held June 23.

Irving operates under a council-manager form of government, in which the city council establishes policy while the city manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization. The city's mayor and eight council members each serve three-year terms.

The current Irving City Council includes:

  • Mayor: Al Zapanta (At-Large)
  • Place 1: John Bloch
  • Place 2: David Pfaff (At-Large)
  • Place 3: Abdul Khabeer
  • Place 4: Luis Canosa
  • Place 5: Mark Cronenwett
  • Place 6: Fahad Ahmed
  • Place 7: Adam Muller
  • Place 8: Dennis Webb (At-Large)

Irving City Council meetings are typically held at least once each month on Thursdays beginning at 7 p.m.

Residents may attend meetings in person or watch them live through the city's YouTube channel, ICTN.tv, Spectrum Channel 95, or Frontier Channel 31.
