74-Year-Old Woman Dies After Crash With 18-Wheeler on I-35W in Alvarado

ALVARADO, Texas — A 74-year-old woman died Tuesday afternoon after her vehicle crashed into an 18-wheeler along Interstate 35W in Alvarado, according to authorities.

Emergency crews with the Alvarado Fire Department, Alvarado Police Department, and CareFlite responded at approximately noon on May 12, 2026, to the southbound lanes of I-35W near the County Road 604 exit.

Responders arrived to find a vehicle that had collided with an 18-wheeler in the 1800 block of South Freeway.

Authorities initially requested a CareFlite helicopter to the scene, but the air response was later canceled.

Officials said the victim was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital while CPR was in progress. She later died from her injuries.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 74-year-old Lydia Herrera Serrano.

Investigators said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
