Two Teens Arrested After Burglary Attempt at Irving Mall

Christopher Melendez and Damian Contreras

IRVING, Texas — Two young men were arrested after an attempted burglary at Irving Mall late Monday night, police said.

Officers were dispatched on March 23, 2026, to a burglary-in-progress call at the mall. Upon arrival, officers searched the property and located two suspects attempting to flee. Both were detained after a brief foot chase.

Investigators said the suspects had entered a portion of the mall that was closed to the public after hours without consent and intended to commit theft. Security footage showed the pair looking under curtains inside the mall and attempting to break into a closed business before being startled by an alarm.

The suspects were identified as 17-year-old Christopher Melendez-Cruz and 18-year-old Damian Contreras.

Both were booked into the Irving Jail and charged with Burglary of a Building, a state felony. During the arrest, officers found a THC vape pen in Contreras’ possession, leading to an additional charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 2 under one gram.

Authorities said both suspects have since bonded out of jail, and their cases remain pending.
