Irving Man Arrested for Assaulting His Brother on Superbowl Sunday

Gustavo De La Cruz

IRVING, Texas — Irving Police officers arrested a 32-year-old man Sunday afternoon, February 8th, after responding to a domestic disturbance that quickly uncovered an outstanding warrant tied to a serious felony case.

Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 3900 block of Twin Falls Street, where they determined Gustavo De La Cruz had allegedly assaulted his brother with a weapon.

During the investigation, officers discovered De La Cruz was also wanted out of Denton County for failing to appear in court for a jury trial related to an aggravated sexual assault case. He had been charged in August 2022 with two first-degree felony counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault. His jury trial had been scheduled for January 16, 2026, but he did not appear. As a result, a warrant was issued by Judge Brody Shanklin of the 211th Judicial District Court in Denton.

For the latest incident in Irving, De La Cruz was booked into the Irving Jail at 3:43 p.m. Sunday and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Additional proceedings related to the Denton County warrant are pending.
