NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — What started as a “simple forgery” call at a local Kohl’s turned into the discovery of an extensive fraud operation, according to North Richland Hills Police.
The investigation began when a Kohl’s loss prevention staff member spotted fraudulent checks being used to make purchases. Detective Mayfield, the department’s fraud investigator, linked the suspect to a similar case in Colleyville. That connection led NRH Police, Colleyville Police, and Hurst Police to execute a search warrant at the suspect’s home.
Inside, officers uncovered what they described as a “fraud factory” — including numerous fake IDs, stolen credit card information, blank checks, and a credit card reader/code writer.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, remains in custody facing multiple charges in both North Richland Hills and Colleyville. Detectives are working to identify and notify additional victims impacted by the scheme.
“This case shows the power of collaboration between our loss prevention partners and neighboring cities,” police said. “It takes everyone working together to shut down fraud rings like this and bring justice to those affected.”
