Early this Tuesday, May 14th, at approximately 5:30 am, emergency responders from Wise County rushed to the scene of a serious accident on Farm to Market Road 1810 near County Road 1340 close to Chico.
Initial findings from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) indicate that a 32-year-old woman was driving westbound on FM 1810. She crossed into the eastbound lane, attempting to overtake in a no-passing area, and collided head-on with an 18-wheeler.
Tragically, the woman was pronounced dead at the site of the accident. Three children who were passengers in the vehicle also lost their lives: a 10-year-old, a 7-year-old, and a 3-year-old, all from Chico.
Chico Independent School District (ISD) has confirmed that two of the children attended Chico Elementary School.
The driver of the 18-wheeler sustained injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, though the injuries are reported as non-life-threatening.
Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
