Abilene Man in Wheelchair Fatally Struck by Two Vehicles; Two Arrests Made

A tragic incident occurred early Thursday morning, resulting in the death of a 59-year-old Abilene man, Donan Myron Justice, who was struck by two vehicles while in his wheelchair at the intersection of Highway 351 and the entrance to Walmart.

According to authorities, a vehicle traveling eastward collided with Mr. Justice and fled the scene, leaving him critically injured. Shortly after, a second vehicle also struck Mr. Justice and continued without halting. Witnesses at the scene rushed to aid Mr. Justice, but he was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Mike McAuliffe.

In response to the incident, law enforcement officials swiftly acted, leading to the arrest of 37-year-old Robby Wayne Hale of Clyde, TX, at a residence in Clyde. Hale faces charges of Second Degree Felony Accident Involving Death and has been detained at the Taylor County Jail. Additionally, 58-year-old John Daniel Gonzales of Abilene was arrested and charged with the same offense in connection with the incident.

The incident, which took place just before 6 a.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024, remains under investigation. Traffic investigators are actively pursuing leads, including the search for the driver of a third vehicle for questioning.
