Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Train in Killeen: Police Investigate

Killeen Police are currently investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a train on Wednesday morning.

Responding to a 911 call at around 7:55 a.m. on February 28, 2024, officers were informed that an individual had been hit by a BSNF train at the Twin Creek Road railroad crossing. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered the lifeless body of a male on the tracks.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the train was traveling eastbound when the conductor spotted a person near the tracks. Despite sounding the train's horn to warn the individual, they did not move, resulting in the collision.

The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Robert Quintin Derego. Justice of the Peace Nicola James pronounced Derego deceased at 8:37 a.m. An autopsy has been ordered and will be conducted at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
