In a recent court case in Dallas County, 47-year-old Gerardo Benitez-Canales of Irving was found guilty of child sexual abuse. The jury only needed to deliberate for 13 minutes to return the guilty verdict.
Irving Police Officers apprehended Benitez-Canales in November of 2022 after investigations into sexual abuse of a child. The victim was under the age of 6.
The Dallas District Attorney's Office handled their own investigation lead by Edwin Gibson, Raphael Vela, Ryan Rodriguez, Walt Clifton and Joe Mundy. The DA victim advocate was Flor de la Fuente.
Benitez-Canales was sentenced to 60 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
It has been revealed that Benitez-Canales has been in the United States illegally.
