On February 14, 2024, Irving Police Officers responded to a theft report at the Dollar General store located at 400 S. Nursery Rd at 8:38 AM. Four officers arrived at the scene and encountered the suspect, who initially refused to identify herself. The suspect was later identified as 45-year-old Jackie Newton, a homeless individual known to frequent the South Irving area. During the arrest, Newton resisted and became combative, assaulting one of the male police officers, causing him pain.
The stolen items from the store amounted to $40.22, including a Coke, candy, Hormel Pepperoni, and three books. Newton was charged with assault on a public servant, theft of property with two or more previous convictions, resisting arrest, and providing false identification.
On February 17th, Newton was transferred to the Dallas County Jail, with a bond set at $18,500. As of February 23rd, she remains incarcerated pending further legal proceedings.
