Homeless Woman Arrested for Aggravated Robbery at South Irving Family Dollar After Assault on Employee

On Saturday, January 27, 2024, at around 6:46 pm, Irving Police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Family Dollar store located at the 1800 block of W. Irving Blvd, situated in the shopping center near the intersection with W. Pioneer Dr.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that the suspect had already fled the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Tamara Brooks, stole merchandise from the Family Dollar. When confronted by an employee, Brooks allegedly punched him in the face and brandished a pair of scissors, prompting the employee to fear for his life. The employee hid  while the suspect proceeded to damage additional store merchandise before making her escape.

Two officers were successful in locating Brooks later on. She was apprehended and identified as currently homeless. Brooks now faces charges of Aggravated Robbery, classified as a 1st-degree felony, along with a Class C Misdemeanor Warrant issued by the Burleson Police Department and listed on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

The stolen items included cookies, Snickers chocolate bars and juices which amounted to a total of $17.25. Brooks' bond has been set at $25,000. On January 29, she was transferred to the Dallas County Jail where she remains in custody.
