In the afternoon of Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 2:50 pm, an Irving Police Officer attempted to stop a vehicle, a black 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, for a traffic violation at the 2700 block of Altman Dr. near W. Rochelle Rd. The driver intentionally fled from the officer. Despite the officer's efforts, the suspect managed to evade capture and the officer lost sight of him.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old James Robert Steele of Irving, was later arrested that day by five Irving Officers at the 1600 block of Dale Pl. in the Grauwyler Heights area near Carl Rd.

Steele was arrested on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon warrant, and he was subsequently charged with evading arrest/detention in a vehicle with a previous conviction.

Further investigation revealed that the Dodge Dakota had been reported stolen from the 3500 block of Bob O Link Dr. in North Irving on January 4, 2024, by its owner. The vehicle, valued at $900, had been stolen from the backyard of a home.

On January 19th, James Robert Steele was transferred to the Dallas County Jail, and his bond was set at $45,000 for charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest with a vehicle with a previous conviction, and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
