Irving Homeless Woman Bites and Scratches Police Officer During Arrest

Katherine Becerra

On January 5, 2024, Katherine Becerra was booked into the Irving Jail at 11:23 am. She had been arrested by Irving Police on December 21, 2023, for the burglary of vehicles and had two open warrants from the Dallas County Sheriff's Office. After being initially sent to the Dallas County Jail, she posted bail of $5,500 and was released. Subsequently, she faced a charge of insufficient bond for the burglary of vehicles and was ordered to be rearrested.

Irving Police officers located Becerra within city limits on January 5, responding to the 3400 block of W. Airport Frwy, near Target on Beltline Road at 10:08 am. In the arrest report, Becerra is listed as homeless in Irving.

When the officers attempted to apprehend her, she resisted arrest.  The report says that she intentionally bit and scratched a police officer during the arrest, causing minor injuries. Consequently, she was charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest. Her bond was set at $55,000, excluding holds from other jurisdictions related to the previous open warrant for burglary of vehicles.

On January 7, Becerra was transferred to the Dallas County Jail. It appears she continues to face charges of insufficient bond due to repeated commission of the same offenses while out on bail.
