LEWISVILLE, Texas - A Lewisville man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he choked his wife until she lost consciousness during a domestic violence incident at a Budget Suites motel and later gave officers a false identity when they tracked him down nearby.
According to the Lewisville Police Department, officers were dispatched at 5:24 p.m. on Aug. 4 to Budget Suites, located in the 2100 block of South State Highway 121, after a 44-year-old woman called 911 reporting that her husband had assaulted and choked her inside their apartment.
The victim told dispatchers the suspect, identified as Darryl Dewayne Lewis, was still inside the apartment and needed to be removed. When officers arrived, Lewis had already fled the scene.
Victim Says She Lost Consciousness During Assault
According to the victim's statement, she and Lewis were arguing while he prepared dinner when the conversation turned to past infidelity.
She told officers she was sitting on the couch when Lewis walked over, wrapped one hand around her throat, forced her onto the couch, and held her down while yelling at her.
The victim said Lewis continued choking her until she could no longer breathe and eventually blacked out.
During the assault, she attempted to grab her phone and told Lewis she was calling 911. She reported that he took the phone from her hand and threw it out of her reach, preventing her from calling for help.
After regaining consciousness, she was able to break free, leave the apartment, and call 911.
Although the victim provided varying estimates of when the assault occurred, investigators noted in their report that difficulty recalling time and the sequence of events is common among victims of strangulation.
Lewisville Medic 3 evaluated the victim at the scene. Medical personnel reported that she stated she had blacked out during the assault.
Victim Reported Similar Assault Weeks Earlier
The victim also told officers Lewis had assaulted her approximately three weeks earlier during another argument over infidelity.
She reported that during that incident, Lewis again pinned her to the couch, grabbed her by the neck, squeezed until she could not breathe, and caused her to lose consciousness while yelling profanities at her.
She said she did not report that earlier assault to police.
Officers Locate Suspect at Nearby Apartment Complex
While completing a domestic violence statement, the victim contacted Lewis' daughter, who advised that his cellphone location showed him at the neighboring Vista 121 Apartments.
Officers responded to the apartment complex, where a K-9 officer located a man matching Lewis' description on the third floor of Building 5.
According to police, Lewis initially identified himself as Jeffery Miller and provided a false date of birth. Investigators later determined that Jeffery Miller was listed as an emergency contact on Lewis' driver's license.
Lewis allegedly refused to provide his true identity while being detained.
During a search incident to his arrest, officers recovered a room key labeled 2121, matching the room where the assault occurred.
Investigators also believed a cellphone heard ringing near Lewis matched a call placed to his phone by an officer while attempting to locate him.

After Lewis was taken into custody, officers notified the victim of his arrest. She advised police that she wanted to obtain a protective order.
