Dangers of Drunk Driving Being Highlighted by Arlington Police

Arlington, TX — The Arlington Police Department released a powerful image of a totaled pickup truck involved in a crash as a reminder of the devastating consequences of impaired driving.

Officials said the photo highlights the real-life impact that drunk driving crashes can have on individuals, families, and communities.

According to Texas statistics, someone is killed in a drunk driving crash approximately every seven hours across the state. Authorities emphasize that these tragedies are preventable.

To help reduce impaired driving, the Arlington Police Department’s Traffic Unit will participate in the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program – Impaired Driving Mobilization (STEP-IDM) during the Spring Break enforcement period from March 6 through March 22.

During this time, officers will conduct increased patrols focused on identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road.

With Spring Break approaching, police are urging residents and visitors to plan ahead before drinking alcohol.

Officials recommend arranging a safe ride home by using a rideshare service, calling a sober driver, or staying where you are until you are able to travel safely.

Police say responsible decisions can help prevent deadly crashes and keep roads safe.
