Miriam Amelia Curry “Mimi”, age 87 of Irving, TX passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 09, 2024. Mimi was born on May 26, 1936, in El Paso, TX. She was predeceased by her husband George C. Curry M.D., father Robert Magedson, mother Dolores Priest (Magedson) and by her brothers Bobby and Stanley Magedson.
Mimi graduated from Austin High in El Paso, TX in 1954 and continued to Texas Western College (now University of Texas at El Paso) where she pursued her passion for drama and teaching and received her Bachelor of Arts degree. She acted and sang in many university and summer stock productions, and her memories from this time in her life became some of her most shared and cherished. Mimi’s first interaction with George Curry was as children, watching him crash as he showed off on his bike, the crush was mutual, and their initials are carved on a tree in El Paso, G.C. and M.M. Mimi was excited each year to invite George to her Sadie Hawkins dance in high school. Their romance became exclusive while at Texas Western, and they eloped in 1958. George would remain at the center of her life for 61 years of marriage until his passing in 2019.
Mimi provided unwavering support for her husband as he pursued his passion to build a career in Medicine. Throughout their marriage they faced life as a team. She pursued teaching in music and elementary education until her first child was born. Mimi then put all her energies into family, supporting her husband’s career and raising their children. She played a pivotal role in the success of her family, providing the stability and love that allowed her husband to excel in his career while ensuring that her children grew up in a warm and nurturing environment.
 Mimi tirelessly nursed wounds, dried tears and supported her children in all their endeavors. She also worked to pass her love for music to her children. Long road trips in the family station wagon usually became family sing-a-longs with Mimi leading the charge. She loved cooking and her tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fried chicken and meatloaf were legendary.
Mimi was also a team mother for many years for every baseball team that her boys played on with her husband coaching their teams within the Irving Boys Baseball Association. It was a family affair on the Trinity River Bottoms where her sons, Mark and Glen, played baseball and her daughter, Mimi, was the “cutest bat girl ever” and her husband, George, coached. Mimi became an avid baseball fan for the rest of her life and was able to see her Texas Rangers win their first World Series just a few months before she passed.
Mimi’s selfless dedication to her family was remarkable, especially as it related to hunting. Her husband loved hunting, and she was not a hunter. But every weekend during hunting season she would drive with her family, often hundreds of miles, and be there for her husband and sons as they pursued their passion for hunting. She sacrificed her time, and likely often her sanity, just so she could be there for any special moments that might be shared from her family’s time in fields, lakes, rivers and ranches all over Texas.
Mimi was each child’s rock throughout their lives. Her children always knew if they found themselves needing a loving place to stay at any time during their lives or someone to be a sounding board, she was there with open arms ready to listen and/or cook as long as needed.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to Kimberly for her dedicated love and care for Mimi during the last years of her life. Her unwavering dedication, patience and compassion were an immense source of comfort to Mimi and her family. Mimi’s dear friends at MorningStar were also a tremendous source of love and support for her for the last 7-years of her life in Parker, Colorado.
Mimi’s dedication to her family and her role as a loving spouse and mother will forever be remembered and cherished. Mimi is survived by her children Mark and his wife Julie and their children Jackie and Nicholas; Glen and his wife Julia and their children Casey and Chloe; daughter Mimi and her husband John Falcon. The family is having a private service and asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Miriam A. Curry to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
