Johnson County Sheriff's Office carried out a Zero Tolerance operation at the Mexican Rodeo/Dance/Concert held on Saturday, March 30th, 2024, on FM 157 in Venus. Commissioner Mike White and his son assisted in setting up barricades on the roadway to ensure the safety of law enforcement personnel from traffic. Constable Matt Wylie, his Deputies, Precinct 4 Deputy Constable, DPS Troopers, Venus Volunteer Fire Department, and Johnson County Correction Officers, along with all Johnson County Deputies, contributed to the successful operation.
Ten arrests were made for various offenses and warrants. Additionally, one Johnson County Deputy conducted a traffic stop resulting in the arrest of an individual for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, and other traffic violations. The event concluded early at 11:30 pm to provide relief to the local residents.
The Sheriff's Office intends to continue implementing zero-tolerance measures at such events due to the prevalence of illegal activities. Incidents of Deputies being assaulted, beer being poured on them, and objects hurled at them and their vehicles have occurred. There have also been instances of shootings, stabbings, automatic gunfire from vehicles, DWI, possession of illegal substances, underage drinking, and criminal mischief at these gatherings.
Acknowledging the inconvenience caused to citizens due to increased law enforcement presence and traffic stops, the Sheriff's Office extends gratitude for their patience and understanding. Despite the challenges in travel, the operation was deemed necessary for public safety and will be continued in future events.
