Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Fiery Crash on SH 121 in Richland Hills

The Richland Hills Police Department is investigating a deadly two-vehicle collision caused by a wrong-way driver early Sunday morning on State Highway 121.

Around 5:30 am on November 30, 2025, officers began receiving multiple reports of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of SH 121 (Airport Freeway). Minutes later, at about 5:35 am, police and fire units were dispatched to the 6900 block of the highway for a major crash involving two vehicles, one of which had caught fire.

Emergency crews arrived to find one vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and discovered the driver, the sole occupant, inside the car. That individual was pronounced deceased at the scene and later transported to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The driver of the second vehicle, also alone in their car, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators say preliminary evidence shows the deceased driver was traveling the wrong way when the collision occurred. Intoxication is believed to be a factor. The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death and will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin are notified.

Police say the deceased individual is believed to be the suspect in the wrong-way driving incident, and no criminal charges are expected.
