Student Shot and Killed by Another Student Outside Arlington's Lamar High School

At around 6:55am this morning, Arlington PD received multiple reports of shots fired on the Lamar High School campus, outside of the school building. Two students were injured and are now receiving medical care. There is no updated information on their conditions.

APD does not believe the suspected shooter ever entered the school.

Officers were able to locate and take that individual into custody shortly after arriving on scene.

Lamar High School is currently on lockdown. APD is asking parents NOT to come to the school right now. Because it’s on lockdown, they will not be allowed onto campus.

“We do want to assure them the scene is now secure,” said Arlington PD. “Our partners at Arlington ISD will be releasing additional information about student release once the lockdown has been lifted (per lockdown protocols, officers must clear the entire building – so that may take some time).”

The school day does not typically begin until 7:35am – and so school was not in session and not all students had arrived on campus when this incident occurred.

According to a news report, the 15-year-old shooting suspect was identified based on witness descriptions and arrested off-campus for capital murder.

Arlington police said they don’t have an update on his motive. They do believe it was a targeted attack.

The victim has been identified as16-year-old Ja'Shawn James Poirier. Poirier was hit in the neck and collarbone by the gunfire.
