Attorney General Sues City of Dallas Over Gun Ban at Music Hall and Majestic Theatre

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed two lawsuits against the City of Dallas, alleging the city is unlawfully banning lawful handgun license holders from carrying their weapons into Fair Park’s Music Hall and The Majestic Theatre. Paxton asserts that these bans are a blatant violation of Texas state law.

The City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs leases both venues. According to Paxton, Texas law prohibits governmental subdivisions from enacting policies that prevent license holders from carrying their handguns, a right the city has repeatedly denied to citizens, allegedly going as far as threatening arrest for those attempting to exercise their rights.

Attorney General Paxton stated, “The law is clear. Cities like Dallas have no authority to override state statutes that enable license holders to lawfully carry their handguns and protect themselves from potential threats. I will always do everything in my power to defend Texans’ gun rights from cities that would strip us of our legal rights.”

This legal action follows a similar lawsuit filed by Attorney General Paxton against the City of Dallas in 2024 for its restrictions on handgun license holders at the Texas State Fair.
