Victor Manuel Medina, Jr., 31, pleaded guilty to Criminally Negligent Homicide with a Deadly Weapon in connection with a fatal collision on Audelia Road in Dallas. He was sentenced to six years in prison and ordered to pay restitution to the victim's next of kin for funeral expenses.
The crash occurred when Medina, driving a Chevrolet Tahoe at 67 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour zone, ran red lights at two intersections. The second violation, at Audelia Road and Chimney Hill Lane, resulted in a violent collision that forced the victim’s vehicle into oncoming traffic before it struck a retaining wall. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prosecutor Kristin Treager, along with DA investigators William Martinez and Ronald Cathcart and paralegal Maria Cantrell, worked closely with the Dallas Police Department on the case. Crash data and witness reports revealed Medina was driving aggressively and well above the speed limit prior to the collision.
