On Wednesday evening, January 8th, at approximately 7:15 p.m., the Fort Worth Fire Department responded to a reported explosion at an electrical substation near Seventeen Lakes Boulevard and Henrietta Creek Road in far north Fort Worth.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames and a large plume of smoke billowing from the substation. Mutual aid was provided by the Roanoke Fire Department and the Saginaw Fire Department.
Unlike typical structure fires, this incident required coordination between fire personnel and Oncor engineers to determine the safest approach. The situation was further complicated by the arrival of a winter storm, raising concerns about potential widespread power outages.
HazMat teams from the Fort Worth Fire Department continuously monitored air quality at the scene and found no cause for concern. After deliberations, it was decided to extinguish the fire rather than let it burn itself out overnight.
Crews battled freezing temperatures throughout the night to fully extinguish the flames and ensure the site was safe. Despite initial power outages for a small number of nearby residents and businesses, electricity was restored quickly, and no additional customers were affected.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
