The City of Grand Prairie has been named Air North Texas’ Partner of the Year for its outstanding efforts to improve air quality during ozone season. Air North Texas, a clean air campaign led by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), honored Grand Prairie for hosting 13 air quality events that drew approximately 9,000 attendees and for its participation in Clean Air Action Day initiatives.

Clean Air Action Day encourages individuals, businesses, and governments to adopt practices that improve regional air quality. Grand Prairie’s contributions included an internal campaign for employees, clean air messaging on city platforms, and the Clean Air Industry Challenge, which engaged 11 local companies.

Other cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area were also recognized for their clean air efforts:

  • Cedar Hill won awards for Outstanding Outreach and the Arlo Ambassador Award, using its website and social media to promote air quality initiatives and keeping staff engaged through regular updates.
  • Plano received the Outstanding Education award for its use of digital media, including the Live Green in Plano Facebook page, to spread awareness about clean air.
  • Dallas earned the Outstanding Initiative award for launching air quality projects, including an Air Sensor Summit that brought together stakeholders to discuss air monitoring innovations.

Air North Texas, formed by NCTCOG with the support of the Air North Texas Coalition, includes 39 partners dedicated to improving air quality. The campaign encourages actions such as working from home, walking or bicycling for errands, and adopting eco-friendly commuting practices.

While North Texas’ ozone season ended on November 30, residents, businesses, and governments are urged to continue contributing to clean air efforts year-round.
