Fort Worth Woman Shoots Estranged Husband During Domestic Dispute in River Trails

On January 1, 2024, at 1:07 a.m., Fort Worth police responded to a shooting at a residence in the 8800 block of Sabinas Trail in the River Trails area, near the border with Hurst. Upon arrival, officers detained a female suspect who had exited the home. Inside, they discovered 48-year-old Joel Keith Simmonds deceased from a gunshot wound to his upper body.

According to detectives, Simmonds and the female suspect, his estranged wife, were in the process of a divorce. A verbal altercation involving the couple and another person in the home escalated. The female and the witness retreated to a bedroom and locked the door. Simmonds reportedly attempted to force his way into the room, prompting the female to shoot him.

No arrests have been made at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
