Suspect Killed After Dallas Police Chase Ends in Crash and Gunfire

A man died Friday, December 27th, after crashing a stolen vehicle while leading Dallas police on a chase and firing at officers, authorities reported.

The incident began just before 1 p.m. when Dallas police spotted a stolen vehicle in the 2900 block of West Camp Wisdom Road in South Dallas. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver reportedly backed into a patrol car before fleeing.

Police initially refrained from pursuing the vehicle on the ground, but a helicopter unit tracked it. During the escape, the suspect intentionally collided with another vehicle, prompting officers to initiate a pursuit.

As the chase continued, the driver fired shots at police officers. The pursuit came to an end near the intersection of Second Avenue and Metropolitan Avenue when the suspect crashed the stolen vehicle.

Dallas police confirmed that no officers were injured and that no officers discharged their weapons during the incident.

Following the crash, a passenger exited the vehicle and was apprehended by police. The driver was transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the crash, where he later died.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the deceased driver or the passenger in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
