The Dallas Police Department (DPD) has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety, respect, and protection of everyone in the city, emphasizing the importance of diversity and inclusion. As part of its mission, DPD aims to build trust and understanding among the various communities it serves, upholding the rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and Texas state laws for all individuals.

The department recognizes the harm caused by hate crimes, which are defined as acts of violence or threats motivated by bias against someone’s race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or gender. These offenses not only violate the law but also attack the fundamental values that make Dallas a strong and inclusive city.

“The Dallas Police Department takes reports of hate crimes very seriously and will investigate such cases thoroughly to hold offenders accountable,” a department spokesperson stated. “We stand united in our belief that every person deserves to live free from fear and discrimination.”

In accordance with Texas law, judges are required to make a finding of fact if an offense is committed due to a victim’s race, religion, or other biases. If this finding is made, the punishment for the offense may be enhanced to a higher category.

DPD also provides residents with access to its Crime Analytics Dashboard, which tracks crime trends, including reported hate crimes, offering real-time data and comparisons to historical crime information.

For those who believe they have been victims of a hate crime in Dallas, reports can be filed through the Dallas Online Reporting System. For violent crimes, residents are urged to call 9-1-1 immediately. The Dallas Police Department remains committed to conducting thorough investigations to ensure justice and accountability for those responsible for such harmful acts.
