Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Construction Project in Arlington Set to Begin in January 2025

The Public Works Department has announced the upcoming construction of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive extension, set to begin in January 2025. The new roadway will connect East Bardin Road to Engleside Drive, with pavement markings extending to Southeast Green Oaks Boulevard. The project is funded by street and water bond funds, the Tarrant County 2021 Transportation Bond, and a Surface Transportation Block Grant from the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG).

Estimated for completion by October 2025, the project will feature significant improvements, including water and sanitary system renewals, storm drainage enhancements, shared-use paths, sidewalks, streetlights, and landscaping. Traffic signal upgrades at East Bardin Road and West Embercrest Drive are also part of the plan.

A public meeting will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Arlington Public Library – Southeast Branch, where residents can learn more and ask questions about the project.
